A Great July 4th

I hope that those of you who celebrated yesterday had a great time. We definitely did. Even though it's our first year here, we've been lucky enough to meet some fantastic people, some of whom invited us to a party out at their house. They have a pond where we were able to swin, bunnies we petted, a gorgeous house we hung out around, and a field where there was a fireworks display.

I was always sad on July 4th in Brooklyn because we couldn't really find a place from which to see the fireworks without being in the middle of crowds and crowds of people and we'd had a nice, quiet 4th of July tradition in Oklahoma that I missed.

This was a promising start for the holiday here.

A Sunny Afternoon

It's overcast (again) here this morning so I thought I'd post some photos from a recent sunny afternoon. Don't get me wrong, I and my garden are certainly grateful for the rain. I'm just going to have to look for a dose of sunshine somewhere other than outside. Enjoy!

More People on Buildings

Here is another batch of crazy people and faces from the facades of buildings. This group makes me think of a possible original function to these sculptures. The horses on the front of what appears to have been a firehouse (on 38th near Lexington) may indicate that there were horses inside. But then, there weren't gargoyles in the building on 29th. . .

white space wednesday

As part of the trip to Houston / Oklahoma of last week, we got to go to Jessica's (Patrick's sister) wedding in Houston. It was lovely and I had a lot of fun photographing her beautiful flower arrangements.

These guardians of many old buildings are fascinating to me. I can't really find much reason for their being on so many buildings but I will continue to look and think of plausible reasons.

I like to think that they are supposed to be guardians. If you know anything, please do share! Look for more examples here to come to inspire your imagination for reasons.

White Space Wednesday!

It's white space wednesday again! This is one of my favorite photos from my days of darkroom photography (when I could rent time in a darkroom for $8 per WEEK!!! if you can believe it). It's an old house that belongs to my Uncle's family which is located near Perry, Oklahoma. And I do believe that rural Oklahoma is generally thought to be the Capital of White Space.

I've just joined the white space wednesday group on flickr and it's so much fun so far! This is my first Wednesday to be in the group and I hope to keep on the ball and do it for a lot more to come.

Spring in Brooklyn

It may have been a LONG time in coming this year, but spring is finally here! All of the green popping up in between the brownstones are my evidence. Ignore the sporadic winter temperatures. And the non-apples-and-oranges fruit are coming back as well.
